The Financial and Labor Cost of Feeding Formulated Diets to Parrots
It costs less to feed TROPICAN® Extruded Granules than ordinary pellets even though TROPICAN® costs more per pound. How can feeding TROPICAN® Parrot or Cockatiel Granules be more economical than cheaper pellets?
- HIGH QUALITY INGREDIENTS FOR PET BIRDS
The exclusive TROPICAN® Formula includes HUMAN GRADE sunflower kernel and peanut meat, not cheaper meals. Sunflower and peanut “meal” is a by-product of the vegetable oil industry and mostly adds bulky fibre from the hulls to formulas that use them. This reduces the palatability of pellets and leads to smelly, wet feces. - GREATER DIGESTIBILITY
Extrusion processing increases the cooking of the grains which makes them more digestible. In addition, it improves the texture of the granules. Ordinary pellets pulverize into dust, significantly adding to wastage. - HIGHER CALORIC DENSITY
TROPICAN® contains two to three times as much fat as pellets, but still only one fifth the amount of fat in oil seeds, such as sunflower or peanuts. This increases palatability and eliminates the need for addition of oilseeds to a diet of TROPICAN®. Most people feeding pellets must still provide oil seeds to keep weight on some species. - THE TOTAL FOOD
TROPICAN® has been fed exclusively as the total diet by HARI for over five years. The hard, compact granules do not break or pulverize when used in gravity feeders, minimizing labor costs. No need to feed labor intensive soft foods with additional costly vitamin supplements. TROPICAN® comes in life cycle formulas.
TROPICAN® has from 10% to 20% higher caloric digestibility than pellets.
TROPICAN® results in 10% to 20% less wastage than pellets. All this results in 20% – 40% less food used when feeding TROPICAN® Granules as compared to pellets.
