Marcia D. asks:
I wish to purchase a clamp light assembly w/light for my parrotlet’s birdcage…reason: I currently have a floor lamp with Zoomed avian bulb (expensive) and want to eliminate the floor lamp feature.
QUESTION: with clamp light. Am I laying it right on the top of the cage or hovering it inches above the cage?
How often do I need to switch out the bulb assuming it is on 12 hours a day?
Please recommend an excellent alternative to the current floor lamp feature (Zoomed light is six inches over cage) thanks…I so enjoy your helpful online newsletter over the years…cheers.
Dear Marcia
Thank you for your kind words, Mitch and I work very hard on the weekly email.
Getting the light as close to the bird as possible is the ticket for best effectiveness.
That you have a parrotlet, the bird won’t be able to damage the bulb so yes, placing it directly on top of the cage is fine.
Full Spectrum Economy Daylight Bulb
Replace all bulbs every 12 months. They may still light up, but they won’t be as effective as a new bulb.

The simple clamp light shown here can be used right on top of the cage.
You can remove the clamp easily.
Or clamp onto a shelf if available as in the featured image(top).
However, if your bird likes playing on top of the cage you may want to keep the light at the 6″ height thus allowing the bird to play under it.
If you have a regular lamp fixture you can use it instead.
This is the Full Spectrum Economy Daylight Bulb 100 Watt (uses 23W) that can be purchased separately

Catherine
