The Birdseed Moth Trap from SpringStar attracts and captures adult birdseed moths

  • Indian meal moth
  • Mediterranean flour moth
  • Almond moth
  • Raisin moth

These insects occur almost everywhere and are attracted by birdseed. The moths lay eggs in cracks and crevasses near food, such as in shelving, cupboards, and pantries. Adult moths emerge and fly about seeking makes.

The Birdseed Moth Trap uses the same chemical messenger (pheromone) that female moths use to attract male moths for mating. Male moths are drawn by the scent and are caught in the trap.

Removing male moths prevents mating and egg-laying. Long-term use of the Birdseed Moth Trap will reduce troubling infestations without the use of toxic chemicals. Safe, effective, and non-toxic.

Note: Use no more than 2 traps at a time in a typical household, setting up more traps only confuses the male moth and can keep him from locating the trap. Each trap can work up to 3 months or replace if full. Suggested locations, one in bird room (away from birds, can be tucked behind something. And one in the kitchen or open pantry.)

What causes moths in the house with birds?

Great question Ron,

So here’s the deal, birdseed is a natural product harvested from the ground outside. All bird seed contains bug eggs. They could be weevils, flour moths, and so forth. These eggs are present in all birdseed. If the bird food is not stored in say a cold environment or it is not used in a timely fashion the eggs become larva and the larva become in your case, moths.

If you keep your seed in a dry storage area it’s best to keep the food in a clear Tupperware type container so you can see any activity. It’s best to not buy more food than you can use within about three months because that’s when insect infestation becomes a problem. In the meantime, it sounds like you are a candidate for our moth traps which are very effective and you can find them here.

“This may sound disgusting, but just SETTING THE TRAP UP . . . I had about 30 horny moths chasing me all over the house from handling the trap!!! I had to take a shower QUICKLY to get the smell off of me. Within 1 hour, NONE were seen at all, except for in the trap. EXCELLENT PRODUCT!!!! I just opened it about 2 hours ago and already told about 3 people who have the same problem. Thanks!”
