Understanding the Best Way to Use Prevue Pets Mimic Me Voice Trainer

Understanding the Best Way to Use Prevue Pets Mimic Me Voice Trainer

Last Updated on by Mitch Rezman

Hi Catherine and Mitch,

We have a blue Quaker (just like yours) named Wally. We got him as a baby and he is now 11 years old. I purchased Mimic Me recently and was reading the instructions.

The directions say, “Supervise your bird when Mimic Me is in use”.

When we are out, Wally is in his cage, and while we are gone, he sleeps. I think he is moping.

I thought Mimic Me might entertain him, but if we need to be present when Mimic Me is talking,  it kind of defeats the purpose.

What do you think? How would you interpret the instructions?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dear Carolyn

I understand the confusion.  It isn’t meant to be a companion for your bird.

The Mimic Me is to record a phrase in your voice so it plays it back repeatedly to help teach your bird the new phrase.

It is better to teach words, songs and phrases personally, but the Mimic Me can help add more repetition, in your voice to reinforce it.

And yes, you should be in the area, even if in another room to return and supervise and maybe offer a small treat.

Most parrots learn to talk best in the first 3 years of life, and after that are less interested in learning as they already know how to get your attention by that age.

A few parrots like African Greys may continue to add words, etc to their vocabulary as they enjoy the communication.

If your bird is bored when you are away and he is locked up. You can choose these times to place a new toy or even a rotated out toy into the cage along with a treat to eat so he starts to look forward to his special times without you.

A radio or TV can also help fill the void. A quiet house can be stressful to a bird.

Let me know if you have any follow up questions.

Regards,

Catherine
