Are Cassowaries Smarter than Emus?

Cassowaries are rarities, very large flightless birds in the genus Casuarius native to the tropical forests of New Guinea, nearby islands and northeastern Australia.There are three extant species recognized today.

Some say it’s to punch through brush, some say it was originally to head butt predators (before they died out in Australia)….but in modern day it seems to serve no real purpose. They are living dinosaurs, so any theory could be true over time.

They are smarter than emus…once you get them alone and feed them mostly from your hand, they tame themselves, but they still need to be watched by experienced trainers. The bird at Jungle Island has tried to attack the kids who do the show before (according to workers at the park).
