Thanks for touching base with me on that. Actually, I haven’t used any of the millet yet because the package says on it natural not organic. What does that mean? Everything is natural, even preservatives and pesticides. It’s all from nature.
Is it organic and why doesn’t the package say so?
Thanks, Patti
Dear Patti
The millet is indeed organic. But it is grown in France and as such does not have the USDA Organic seal.
We have spoken to Higgins about this and they are working to get the seal but have been informed it will take a year before it comes through.
We only found out there about the difference between organically grown out of the country and organic are grown in the US and getting the seal recently.
Millet to pet birds is what McDonald’s French fries are to humans ~ like both moderation is the key video
There is really no difference, but the government wants to be involved, and as such the Higgins company is removing the Organically Grown wording until the seal is obtained.
We also have to change our listing description as well until then.
It is fine organic millet that your birds will enjoy. Do not fear. We have sold this exact millet for over 10 years with no problems.
Thank you for writing and asking.
