Good afternoon,

We have a 17 yr Goffin Cockatoo named Buddy. His birthday is July 13, 2008. We got him from Parrot Mountain in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

We have been looking for a good home for him. Because my wife and I have a new condo and they want us to find buddy a new home.  We have been on your mailing list since about 2012.  And wanted to ask if you have any suggestions? Thank you

Dear Jim

We are very sorry that you cannot take your bird with you. If your bird is not a screamer, you may wish to try to change their requests. Your bird is imprinted on you and will be a very sad bird if he can’t be with you anymore.

Finding a new, good home is not that easy. Cockatoos are a handful and unless the new owner understands this, it can go poorly.

Reach out to local bird clubs and attend a meeting or two, go to a local rescue and talk to them.

If you are in Illinois, contact this group to start  (630) 640-4924

Greater Chicago Cage Bird Society & Rescue

They will help you.

Please let us know how it goes.

Good afternoon Catherine,

We appreciate your advice. It’s very helpful. I looked up our local bird community the greater Chicago birds,  and left them a message.

I even called where we had got Buddy in Tennessee. They said no one ever requested to return a bird to them. anyway, we’re going to see how everything goes and thanks again.
