Is Garlic Safe for Pet Birds?

Last Updated on by Mitch Rezman

Howards asks,

Can she have home-roasted garlic?

No Howard, birds cannot have garlic.

It is toxic to them in any form be it powdered, raw, cooked, or processed.

Garlic contains a chemical called allicin. Allicin can cause anemia in birds, it can also cause the bird to become weak

To be safe, do not add any other seasonings like salt, onion, or cayenne pepper to a bird’s diet either.

Here’s a list of bird-safe spices

Have a safe holiday weekend
