Hello Catherine and Mitch,
Thank you for all you do for the birds.
I have reached out to you before. My concern is my male parakeet Lemon who is almost seven.
He is fully flighted. About two weeks ago there were several flight feathers on the floor and on the bottom of the cage.
Lemon was then not able to fly but he attempts to do so and ends up on the floor.
He had been seen by the avian vet two weeks prior and there were no issues
He is eating normally and seems fine otherwise.
Now our other parakeet Melon rarely flies and keeps him company in the cage. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Dear Nancy
Sounds like your little Lemon may have caught one wing in a cage bar and they got yanked out. Or, he got stepped on and jumped away, thus yanking his feathers out.
This has happened here once before when one of our little dummies was walking around and his tail was stepped on.
He jumped and suddenly had no tail.
Looks like they came out neatly and he was not injured. But he may still be a little sore.
The body will soon realize one side is gone and the other side may molt out to match. Then they should grow back in just fine.
Yes, keep him in his cage if he tries to fly as he will not be able to control his flight path.
You might wish to put a supplement in his water to help with regrowth. It is also good to serve when going through a regular molt.
Nice that he has company while he recovers.
Thank you for the picture.
