May I Use a Fluorescent Bulb Rather Than a Full Spectrum Bulb

Last Updated on by Mitch Rezman

Sharon McA. asks,

May I use a fluorescent bulb rather than a full spectrum bulb atop my birdcage for my two Indian Ringnecks? Please advise. Thanks.

Hi Sharon,

Fluorescent bulbs are available in a variety of color temperatures including “full-spectrum”.

The light cycle 12 on – 12 off is more important than the quality of light.

Whatever the light source, it should be no higher than 6 inches over the top of the birdcage.

G’morning Mitch and Catherine,
Thank You for your lighting advice. I’ll do that right away…as soon as the store opens.

You both are FANTASTIC!!! I LOVE the SUNDAY MORNING BIRDIE BRUNCHES TOO.

My 2 Indian Ring Necks have totally different personalities.

Maverick, my “Flying Ace” (named after Tom Kruze in the movie Top Gun), sits on top of my laptop and watches most of your videos…upside down!

He’s also a talker. My favorite is when he sees me put my bookbag over my shoulder (I’m a teacher) and he hears my keys, he says “give me kiss-kiss”.

Sunnie, my female non-flyer and non-talker, is preparing for the “Birdie Soccer Olympics”.

Her second humble abode is underneath my recliner.

She plays with balls having a bell inside of each and shoots them under the chair.

She pokes her head out from underneath, checks to see if I’m there, and shoots all 6 balls out, in 6 different directions, wanting me to shoot them back to her.

Again, I thank you.

Have a great day. Stay safe and well.

Sharon
