Hi there! I recently inherited a bird cage that I think might be a California cage. Do you have any recommendations for what kind of dish would be a suitable replacement?
Dear Isabella
One way to tell if you have a California Cage is that they are welded one-piece cages. At least the body is. The tops would be separate, then bolted on.
California Cages used three different sizes for their small, medium and large cages.
We currently have the medium and the large sizes available in a plastic crock that was designed around the original ceramic dish that they used.
The original ceramic dishes made by Fenix are long gone as is the Fenix company.
Now of course there were variables in the Cal Cages over the years. They went from one dish shape to another briefly, then back to the original. And then when the California Cage family broke up, the brothers did produce another line of cages that were not a welded body.
So you will have to measure carefully and try to see if the dish you order is the correct. Dish dimensions are in the listings to reference.
In the meantime you can find
