We get lots of phone calls at Windy City Parrot covering many bird care topics. A recurring subject that arises is an “inherited” bird. Most recently a gentleman called to inquire about Bird Travel Carriers.
We always ask 2 questions in response to inquiries such as these. 1) What kind of bird? 2) How will the bird carrier be used? We always want to make sure we’re providing the appropriate equipment.
So a customer we’ve not seen before comes into the Birdie Boutique seeking bird food for his two African Grey Parrots…….and some advice.
He acquired these two birds. One was hand raised, the other African Grey was wild-caught. The parrots are in cages much too small. They are being fed primarily a bird food diet of seed and they’re making a helluva mess. The mess has gotten so out of hand he now has mice – everywhere!
Recently at some point, while the birds were out of the cage, one of the Greys pull all the wood paneling off one wall in the family room. So far his only solution was to buy a cat to get rid of the mice. Yikes!

Love Birds are prolific shredders The females will pack their rump feathers with the shredded paper Males will make confetti
This helps them carry more nesting material back to the nest. In Love Birds, three of the nine species are dimorphic. A species is dimorphic if the cock is visibly different in color from the hen.
The following three love bird species, Madagascar Love Bird, Red-faced Love Bird, and Abyssinian Love Bird, fall into this category.
Thanks for touching base with me on that. Actually, I haven’t used any of the millet yet because the package says on it natural not organic. What does that mean? Everything is natural, even preservatives and pesticides. It’s all from nature.
Is it organic and why doesn’t the package say so?
Hi Mitch,
How does the “Cordless rotary bird nail and beak trimmer” in your current promo compare with my dremel ( which is not cordless)?
Do I need thus for my birds if I have. A Dremel brand dremel (which I don’t use on my birds cuz it scares them, so I take them to the bird groomer.
Would this one you have be less noisy and upsetting to my birds than my Dremel (I have a CAG, a hawkhead, 2 lories, and lovebirds)
Any advice appreciated 🙂
Yesterday I received my order number WCP-57541 (3 32oz Lixit bottles and 3 32oz Lixit stoppers). I realized immediately upon opening the box that I had purchased the incorrect size – what I really need are 3 16oz Lixit bottles and 3 16oz Lixit stoppers).
