I’ve bottle-fed ( yes bottle) and weaned 2 Congo African Grey Parrots in my lifetime( Starr & Hope) I have 4 Blue front Amazons now 2 bottle-fed and weaned in 2005 & 2015.

One of my baby budgies (about 2-3 weeks old) has splayed legs but is still in the nest box and being fed and cared for by the mom.Â
Is it okay for me to remove the baby to put bands on the legs and then place it back in the nest box?
I don’t want the mother to stop feeding/caring for it because I handled it.
I also don’t want the splayed legs to go untreated for too long.

You can clip ANY bird’s wings. But it is best to have a good reason for it.
If the bird is new to you and your home and you are trying to get the new bird to learn where his cage is and settle in, and/or also trying to bond with a new baby bird.Â

No Howard, birds cannot have garlic.
It is toxic to them in any form be it powdered, raw, cooked, or processed.

Mitch, I have read much and understood all of your points about lighting.
My bird is a Congo African Grey.
My concern is that I have also read articles about the danger of eye damage such as cataracts from such closeness and intensity of the light. At the equator, high noon footcandles range from 9-10,000 and cycle up and down moonlight to moonlight (.01 FC @ full moon) and between dawn & dusk (10 FC).
I have a full spectrum bulb in my ceiling 5′ above his cage.

Hi, my Indian Ringneck keeps flying back to her cage all the time when I take her around on my shoulder.
She won’t venture further than a foot away from it.
She also has a box she likes to spend time in and on.
She has toys to play with and I give her branches to rip up.
I keep going and getting her every time and repeat it quite a few times and she always goes back.
She was doing this at her previous owners too.

Short answer. You can’t. Birds of a feather stick together and you have no feathers. Â
Long answer.
You can clip their wings, separate them into different cages, and plan to spend several hours with each of them individually in daily sessions in hopes to earn their trust and want to be with you.
