Is This Birdcage Big Enough for My 2 New Blue Budgies?

Hello Mitch,

I recently purchased 2 Budgies, male and female from a pet store, they are not tamed and l do not think I will ever be able to tame them.

They are terrorized if I try to touch or hold them.

But I really like them and the Animal Welfare Society has 2 males that are up for adoption.

My Cockatiel died this past summer so they are in her cage.

Why Did I Wait So Long to Add Light to My Bird’s Environment?

Michael M. shares information about Kula’s new lighting,

Hey guys,

Well, it only took a decade or so but my latest move to the Olympic Peninsula and 4 or 5 day stretches of dismal grayness made me seriously consider the daylight bulbs you’ve been telling me about.

So I ordered a couple and installed 1 kinda at the end of her main perch.

She is out all day in an amalgamation of hanging toys, puzzles, branches, food, water in front of a big picture window.

Why Wont My Conure Eat Pellets?

Denise M. wants to know why her conure won’t eat pellets,

Love your publication! I want to inquire about feeding. I feed sweetie bird conure food as well as apples, raspberries sugar snap peas, and grapes. He will not eat pellets. I hope he is getting enough vitamins without pellets. Thank you

Dear Denise

We can relate. Pellets do provide a diet that is complete with vitamins, but if they don’t eat them, what can you do?

If your bird does eat more pellets than other offerings, seeds, nuts, etc then you don’t have to be concerned about added vitamins.

Which Travel Carrier Do You Recommend for a Greenwing Macaw?

Louie L. is looking for a macaw carrier

Do you recommend a travel cage for a greenwing macaw, in the car, and maybe a weekend camping trip size?

Any input will help thanks

Dear Louie

Nice that you want to bring your macaw with you when you camp, travel. They are family members too.

However, you do want to keep them safe and they are so big and so strong.

How Do I Stop My Cockatiel From Laying So Many Eggs?

Karen E. is concerned about her cockatiel’s egg laying,

My 4-year-old Tiel has now laid eggs for the second time in 5 months and plucked herself terribly!

She eats pellet and some greens and cuttlebone, mineral block.. she’s very picky at eating.

What is the best thing I can do for egg-laying to throw her off, and the plucking? Her health is normal since the last vet visit.

Should I Get a New Puppy With a Conure and Eclectus in My Home?

Mo J. is considering a new puppy,

Is it possible to safely bring in a new puppy with 2 parrots in the home?

I’m considering getting a French Bulldog puppy but worry about my Conure and Eclectus.

I don’t want to put my babies in any danger. Has anyone had experience with parrots and dogs in the same home? Any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Here Are More Ants Around the Birdcage Solutions

Alice H. relates this about ants around her birdcage,

Have fought off ants inside our home along two walls for years. Used diatomaceous earth which is a desiccant and harmless which was somewhat effective but messy.

Found Amdro Ant Granules and sprinkled outside on a few spots as a test. I was amazed to see the ants grab up the granules and take them right back to their nests.

Literally within days no more outside in those spots and consequentially no ants in the house anymore either.
