Have We Finally Found a Cure for Feather Plucking?

“I’ve got a Catalina macaw that has a problem of plucking, I took her to the vet, she has a clean bill of health, now if anyone can help with the feather plucking problem, I would appreciate it , Thanks.”

From a customer on the West Coast during a phone call this week

“My 14-year-old lovebird began to pluck for no reason at all. We have him on the best foods we can provide like Harrison’s pellets but we had to put a collar on her to stop the feather loss. Nothing has changed in her life and she is fully flighted”

Egg Laying Umbrella Cockatoo

We have a female Umbrella Cockatoo, age 26 who, despite head-only petting when she is ‘broody’ will lay an occasional egg or two (maybe once a year, sometimes not for a couple of years).

I have never been able to find the answer to: Is it better to let her sit on the eggs or take them away immediately? We have tried both methods. She gets a very healthy diet and supplemental calcium when she is going to lay.

I have read that if you take away the eggs, it encourages them to lay more, but I worry that sitting on the eggs for several weeks isn’t good for her either. Has any research been done on this topic?

Try this:

1.WASTEFUL.. Buy $30 worth of groceries and throw $24 worth in the trash as soon as you arrive home. Do this several times a month. Parrots require fresh food in addition to pellets (not seeds) and are wasteful eaters. If you can’t afford the wastefulness of a parrot, you can’t afford the parrot.

I understand what you’re getting at and I appreciate it. They aren’t homeopathic remedies they are flower essences.

The bird would NOT come out of the cage at all in the last four homes and would bite viciously.

He was phobic of everything.

I tried the parrot training recommendations from birdtricks.com and he would not come out, would not step up, and bloodied himself in fright.

Problem Hatching Cockatiel Eggs

I have a question I have 2 cockatiel male & female they lay ton’s of eggs

But I’ve only been able to hatch one and I had to take it and hatch it in my incubator but I’ve never been able to hatch any more I’ve tried to let her hatch the eggs on her own, it doesn’t look like my Male is fertilizing them any more

I don’t know what to do ?? could U offer some advise I’d appreciate any help U can give

Hello,

My name is Dylen T. and am 13 years old. I’m doing a 4-H project with a bird I have named Dani. Her father is a Peachface Lovebird and her mother is a Fischer Lovebird. She is 5 1/2 years old. Dani was all green with a red/orange face when she hatched.

About a year and a half ago she started losing the blue pigment in her feathers, now she looks almost exactly like her sister, Honey, the Lutino that was hatched in the brood after hers. Dani is doing everything she would normally do like play, eat, drink and bathe. Do you know what could make this happen in a lovebird? I would appreciate any help you can give me with this.

Good Day! I have a beautiful Yellow Head Parrot that has been with me since birth. we grew up together! My mom bought him,(Chico) When I was born, and according to my mother, he had just been born. I am now 56 years young, LOL!!

He is very healthy and happy.

He is my little companion and I have just decided to remodel his cage and give him some more love, do something different.
