Bird Cage Perches Needed

Dear Sharon

Yes, we are open to hearing about your perches and pricing. I am not sure what you mean by a “merchant application” we don’t have one of those.

Just send us an email or a fax with your prices, details and we can go from there. Most perch makers are home-based businesses, so you are not any different from them. I do like to buy from the manufacturers rather than a distributor as it keeps costs down.

Thank you for the contact for the stainless steel washers, I have not been very proactive in hunting them down even though I know they exist. And I knew there was a local company, so that is nice.

Button Quails as Pets

Button Quails aka Chinese Painted Quails are an oft-overlooked aviary bird. They are classified as Galliformes which simply states, they’re ground-eating birds (like chickens, turkeys, peacocks, and pheasants). Button quails can fly but most of their time is on the ground and they even enjoy taking dust baths. They use the sand for grit as well which helps with digestion.

The State bird of California is a California Quail, the button Quail is about half the size and does not have had plume. Button Quails come in white, silver, reddish-brown, and even speckled colors.

Housing for a Lineolated Parakeet

Mitch,

Thanks so much for spending time with me on the phone. Very much appreciated.

As discussed, I will be getting a single Linnie. Most likely, it will stay at one. There is a small chance it could expand to two birds later … but not in the plans right now. I just mention that in case it influences your recommendation. Wouldn’t want to have to change cages later in this unlikely occurrence.

How You and Your Bird Benefit from Clicker Training

Clicker training is a great way to teach your bird positive behavior. Clicker training is especially useful with problem birds and parrots because it can help in making positive changes with your birds.

Clicker training helps make your bird do something willingly. Clicker training has been used on dogs many zoo animals. Dolphins use something similar to clicker training except they use whistles instead of clickers which are heard better underwater.

Why Stick Training Is Important for Birds

A stick can be any type of long rod, preferably wood, and something that your bird can comfortably grab onto. Although a birdcage perch would seem to make the most sense they are usually too short.

A 3 foot dowel rod of the appropriate diameter can be purchased from your local hardware store or home improvement store. A broomstick can be just as handy. (more…)

Additional Perils to Birds & Parrots

Friends, here are additional perils.

  1. West Nile Virus — I bought a huge mosquito net, made to cover an outdoor gazebo, and put it over the cage and tuck it underneath, so no way can an insect get in. It is amazing how many different bugs I catch in that thing.
  2. Cold — I think you should sell thermal perches. All the birds love them, hot or cold. The older birds only want those. Medium is suitable for Amazons, conures etc. Smaller birds like cockatiels — use the size small.

Seeking Prosthetic Wing for My Amazon Parrot

I am wondering if there is any type of prosthetic wings available for birds or something that would be able to attach to my bird so he could use his wings to land safely if he falls.
My birds left-wing has been partially removed right before the 2nd joint of the wing connects.
So he has a partial wing but not enough wingspan to help him land safely when he loses his balance and falls.
