Dear Anne
It’s 17 years I have my bird and his beak grows so fast, I try to clip it with a nail clipper but sometimes it bleeds, can you tell how best I can cut his beak.
Hello Mitch;
Yesterday I saw your article about the doctor who told a woman with interstitial lung disease to get rid of her macaw.
What follows is what I know about this and my opinion on it.
Gloria W. is concerned about her budgie’s feather growth.
First – I enjoy your Sunday messages very much. Thank you.
Now a question. From all i have tried to research I think my budgie is growing primary feathers as I purchased him one wing trimmed.
Susan is seeking advice,Â
My 9-year-old conure is having an issue with his beak.
Two months ago I had his Avian vet trim his top beak as it was very long. Less than a month later his bottom beak got really long. So back to the Vet Jax went. The vet said to give him hard nuts to chew or a cuttlebone.
Jim relates,
We have a 12-year-old lovebird.
He’s had all kinds of injuries over the past 5 yrs and early last year we discovered he has glaucoma.
We found him on the floor which is very unusual and realized he injured himself …he now has tilted his head to the left and can’t lift it straight up or hold it in the position much longer.
June D. relates,
Catherine mentioned milk thistle liquid for helping manage liver disease in Amazon. Her diet is being changed and she is on a liver supplement from her Vet. Any suggestion regarding dosage would be very much appreciated.
Posey is 22 years of age and weighs 590 gms.
Kim M. requests advice,
I have been reading your emails for quite some time. I finally need some advice.Â
I have a 28-year-old Blue and Gold McCaw. She has been fairly happy over the years. She was my son’s bird until he got married and didn’t take her with him. Now she has to deal with me and misses my son very much but now has resigned to the fact I have to be her person.
Patricia McP relates
My 38 year old DYH Amazon just had an echocardiogram done by Dr. Fitzgerald, an avian cardiologist specialist. It was a beneficial exam that helped us adjust Pancho’s meds. Pancho has the typical Amazon heart disease, but it doesn’t mean the end if you take special care and take advantage of all the modern technology available.
Vee B. is seeking a disabled parakeet perch.
Hi, I’ve rescued a disabled parakeet named Henry.
He was malnourished when he was young and the vet believes that’s why over time he has lost the ability to clutch anything with his feet.
In addition, the prior owner had his wings clipped incorrectly so he can’t fly either.
Consequently, he spends all his life on the bottom of the cage, with his bird buddies often pooping on him and he can only scoot along the sides of the cage using his beak to clutch the cage.
