Raw peanuts contain a toxin called Aflatoxin in them. Aflatoxin is a liver toxin and is dangerous for parrots. So it’s for sure that raw peanuts are not safe for parrots.
From a Facebook fan last night
I’ve got a Catalina macaw that has a problem of plucking, I took her to the vet, she has a clean bill of health, now if anyone can help with the feather plucking problem, I would appreciate it, Thanks
From a customer on the West Coast during a phone call this week
“My 14-year-old lovebird began to pluck for no reason at all.
We have him on the best foods we can provide like Harrison’s pellets but we had to put a collar on her to stop the feather loss.
Nothing has changed in her life and she is fully flighted”
Shouldn’t we learn how to find the right foods for our pet birds?
Feathered factoid: as much as 30% of a bird’s calories are used in the production and maintenance of feathers.
Editor’s note: We don’t know what bird food your bird will like any more than what you like on Netflix.
“Transparent”, “Scandal” or “The Walking Dead,” shows are both loved and reviled.
We do know that instinctively your bird has a desire to “search” or “forage” for food seven days a week.
Actually, my dogs are given mostly a raw diet and I supplement a little kibble.
I have to put her away until they’re done or she chases them from their own food :).
Thoughts, please.
Dear Pam
The dirt in your houseplants is more dangerous than the kibble.
We asked this question in our Birdie Brunch served on 6/22/19
Do you serve your bird(s) chop? Share your thoughts.
I do not feed my birds only ‘chop’, but I think it is good for part of the diet.
Don’t you think this is all about ‘the next big thing’?

We live in NC and as you are probably aware, Hurricane Matthew has created some problems.
We were evacuated in a raft, with our Eclectus Parrot.
Since we have returned home, she is acting stressed and exhibiting behaviors that I have not witnessed before this.

I have a rescue budgie, the top of his beak was almost totally gone, just barely hanging. We have NO vet in my area and nobody specializes in birds. I removed what was hanging and she seems ok, I made a “mush” for her to eat. Will the beak grow back?

There is so much conflicting information on pellets and Eclectus parrots (the potential to overload on vitamins).
I have been giving them about 10 [pellets] a couple times a week.
I wanted to know your thoughts on this.
I do try to feed them a very balanced diet but I know we can’t cover everything.
Thanks for your help.

“How did you get your parakeets to eat chopped veggies?
Mine will nibble on veggies I put on a tiny skewer but show no interest in chopped veggies in a bowl.
