Do Dander Birds Like Cockatiels Require a Regular Drenching?

Scott writes,

Hey folks: Our 4-year-old (almost) male gray Cockatiel Buddy has a dander problem?

We can get him to bathe outdoors when he’s out in the lanai and it happens to be raining which is a fairly common occurrence here in west-central Florida but the problem (?) is that we can’t get him wet to the skin. Buddy will shake off after a bath and a cloud of dander will “poof” off him.

I’ve read that birds, in general, need to get wet to the skin to remain healthy. Any thoughts?

How Can I Get My New Budgie to Cohabitate With My Old Budgie?

Barbara T. wants to know

My darling birdlings, parakeets, happen to both be female. One, Moonshadow, is approx 7 years old…a rescue.

When her partner passed last year, after the funeral, Moonbirdy was sooo lonely, depressed, inactive.

We, in mid pandemic, bought a pet shop friend for her. Of course, the pet shop attendant assured my husband Mercury was Male.

How Can I Help My Budgie Stop Laying Eggs?

Kristy L. asks,

How can I help my budgie stop laying eggs?

We have allowed her to have two clutches and I can’t have any more babies.

Our vet wanted a depo shot which we did once with the vet’s advice and I don’t like what it did to her personality.

It’s been three months and now she has laid 2 eggs.

What Is Your Opinion of These Fresh Bird Chop Ingredients?

Scott R. wonders,

Hi Mitch, always reading on how to keep my bird healthy and happy and stumbled on to your last email and was interested if maybe I should try making this food or not.

1 cup dry quinoa (makes about 2 cups when cooked), 2 carrots, 1 broccoli, 1 medium beetroot, 6 chilies, ¼ cup flaked almonds, ½ cup rolled oats. Cook quinoa, chop all other ingredients, and mix everything together.

Eclectus/Galah/Cockatoo/Amazon: 2-4 tablespoons

Should I Remove a Budgie With Splayed Legs From the Nest Box?

Should I Remove a Budgie With Splayed Legs From the Nest Box?

Kyndra B.  relates,

One of my baby budgies (about 2-3 weeks old) has splayed legs but is still in the nest box and being fed and cared for by the mom.

Is it okay for me to remove the baby to put bands on the legs and then place it back in the nest box?

I don’t want the mother to stop feeding/caring for it because I handled it.

I also don’t want the splayed legs to go untreated for too long.

Is It Okay to Clip a Parrotlet’s Wings???

Chris S. asks,

Is it okay to clip a parrotlets wings???

Dear Chris,

You can clip ANY bird’s wings. But it is best to have a good reason for it.

If the bird is new to you and your home and you are trying to get the new bird to learn where his cage is and settle in, and/or also trying to bond with a new baby bird.

Thank You for Recommending Tropican by HARI

Jen M. writes,

Hi, we just wanted to thank you for the Hagen Tropican recommendation!

We ordered the sticks.

Our macaw just loves them and they smell amazing!

I feel so good knowing that I’m feeding them healthy food.

I had no idea that Zupreem had sugar in it and all that color can’t be good.

We also ordered the Prime Vitamin per your recommendation.
