Can I Grab My Parakeets While In Their Cage

First of all, people who state absolute truths about bird care as in yes and no have much to learn.

To answer this question with an emphatic “no”, begs even more queries:

  1. It’s time to take the bird to the vet, how do I get it from cage to carrier?
  2. The bird is sick or injured in the cage, now what?
  3. How do I get the bird to examine it?
  4. What if I need to weigh the bird?

If you just want to let the bird out by opening the cage door have you examined your home?

Answers For A Cockatiel Pulling Out His Wing Feathers And A Cockatiel With Cataracts

Dear Mitch I wanted to ask for your advice.

My male cockatiel is pulling his feathers out from under his wings.

I brought him to one avian vet who did blood work.

That was a dead end.

The 2nd vet sent droppings to a lab and that was negative.

What Are The Most Difficult Parrots To Keep As Pets For Most Bird Owners

What are the most difficult parrots to keep as pets for most bird owners?

First a little housekeeping.

When we talk about species of birds, it’s important to be specific.

To say that “cockatoos are needy”  would be inaccurate.

Why Is This Jubilee (Hybrid) Macaw Having A Difficult Molt?

Donna B writes on 9/9/2018

I have a 6-1/2 year old Jubilee Macaw (named Bijou) who seems to be having a very difficult molt.

I am concerned his constant picking might turn in to plucking.

Bijou has begun constantly picking on himself and pulls out not only larger feathers but also small to mid size feathers and gray fluff.

As of now, however, I don’t see any skin abrasions or blood.

Dear Mitch and Catherine! 😊

First of all, I want to thank you for all the wonderfull “breakfast meals” you give us “hungry” parrot slaves every sunday! 😊

They are so informative, and I always look foreward to read them every weekend!

Thank you very much for ALL the work you make in the research of writing these articles! ☺️

By the way; I love the new format you’ve made on your website!! 😊😊

I appologize for the inconvineance, but I hope you have the time to help me, please, with a couple of questions about a few different subjects.

First of all; my heart is owned by my 6 month old sweetheart parrotlet boy, named Charlie. ☺️❤️

Would CBD Oil Help A One Eyed African Grey?

Name: Inna M

Hello.

We have a 7 year old African grey.

Unfortunately we made a mistake and did not train him properly.

We are having problems with his behavior.

He attacks.

He bites.

He is angry.

He only obeys one person in the house.

Is it too late to train him? Who can we turn to?

Thank you.

Should My Budgies Nap Early So They Can Stay Up Late?

The original question on Quora was: Can I leave the lights out for my budgies for a few hours in the early evening so they can take a nap?

They usually stay up until 2am with us?

All birds get an extraordinarily large amount of information from sunlight both the visible spectrum that you and I can see and the invisible spectrum UVA/UVB light.

The light is sent to the pineal gland just behind the right eye where it tells the bird how long the day is and sets off melatonin cells that vibrate like micro metronomes enabling birds to tell the precise time of day – although they don’t know the day.
