How Do I Get My Bird to Trust Me?

Captivity is a relative term. I’m not relegated to my home but I still have to pay rent, go to work, pay taxes and perform all those duties that enable me to be a good neighbor and good citizen of the world.
If captivity is all that you know it really captive? We have four budgies, all rescues. We really don’t have the background on any of them but we’ve kept them flighted thus they don’t leave the cage.
With all due respect, the question answers itself. There are a 350 species of parrots and about 372 species of parakeets As opposed to there only being one species of dog.
Further, the individual who acquires a single parrot can be considered a pet owner or companion, our term is “pet bird keeper” Once a second parrot is introduced the aforementioned individual becomes a zookeeper.
Mary J. is concerned about her cockatiel,
Hi,
I was wondering if I could ask your advice? My cockatiel has laid 9 eggs in the past two months–no mate. Do I need to be concerned enough to take her to the vet? It’s $185 a visit….thank you. She is healthy and happy and energetic as always.
Jean T. relates,
I had an 8 year old red bellied parrot for about 4 years. I had to give her to a friend due to a family situation at my house (hopefully in a year I can bring her back home). I would like to visit my parrot but I was wondering if this would be too hard on her. So my question is visit or no visit?
Kathy M. has concerns about her Molting IRN (Indian ringneck) parrot
Agni, our 12-year-old IRN parrot is molting.
We live in California. This one is a big molt, so he looks really scruffy.
I’m wondering if there is anything particular in food or supplements that could be helpful.
Kim M. requests advice,
I have been reading your emails for quite some time. I finally need some advice.
I have a 28-year-old Blue and Gold McCaw. She has been fairly happy over the years. She was my son’s bird until he got married and didn’t take her with him. Now she has to deal with me and misses my son very much but now has resigned to the fact I have to be her person.
Patricia McP relates
My 38 year old DYH Amazon just had an echocardiogram done by Dr. Fitzgerald, an avian cardiologist specialist. It was a beneficial exam that helped us adjust Pancho’s meds. Pancho has the typical Amazon heart disease, but it doesn’t mean the end if you take special care and take advantage of all the modern technology available.
Tammy F. is worried about her bird’s territorial issues,
Yogi, my timneh African grey parrot has taken over our bedroom dresser and nightstand drawers. He learned to open them months ago, he loves getting in there and throwing everything out.
I let him have fun with it but now when my husband goes to get into the drawers Yogi does a dive bomb to his head. He does it to me also but I’m more aware of him and know he’s coming and divert him.
He does not want anyone in “his” drawers. He gets locked in his cage for this behavior sometimes but he knows when we are going to put him in his cage and he flys off.
Dorothy T. is seeking a pet bird keeping solution
Henry a Male, by all means, started wanting to feed me, he became obsessive.
Then my other bird.
Not a buddy, but someone he talks with, in my room.
