Is My Pet Bird Triggering My Bronchitis?
I recently realized that I might have “Bird fancier’s lung” (bronchitis caused by sensitivity to dust from feathers and droppings).
Should I give away my pet bird?

Editor’s note: full transparency, I don’t think we’ve ever covered the subject of pet birds and hearing.
Once again a loyal reader comes through with a potentially serious issue that until now we have left opaque.
Many of us take for granted that our birds can hear but exactly how good is their hearing, how has it evolved and how do they use it?
Lori Seaton asks: Like the new format. I have asthma. Dr. Suggest that I get rid of our 2 birds… LOL not going to happen.
I had all the problems before we got the birds. What kind of air cleaner is best? We rent our apartment. Thank You.

Can ultrasound plug-in pest controls harm caged birds? Thanks
Hi Laurie
I would not take the chance – if its an ionic version it can definitely be harmful

Hi Windy City,
Does anyone out there clean their perches with peroxide?
Is it safe?
I’ve tried various surface cleaning methods followed by baking.
Most recently, after cleaning off loose debris, I soaked in bleach water, then steamed with a brush attachment.
During a cold spell, so I did this indoors.

I am getting a young cockatiel in about 5 weeks.
My question is about cleaners to use in my house around birds.
Lois writes
I have a product called Green Gobbler for drains–says it contains no VOCs, petroleum solvents, chlorine, ethoxylates, synthetic fragrance — so it should be safe to use in a household with parrots.
Hello!
I just sent a response to my recent order for 5 more flat perches to be put into my African Grey’s cage.
He was sold to me without toenails, and when I questioned the store owner, he told me “they’d grow back” which they never have.
