How are pineapple conures different from green cheek conures?

Hi Mitch,

Hello, I was hoping to get your insight on what’s going on with our Pineapple Green Cheek Conure named Mango.
She’s about 13 years old. About 6-weeks ago, we put in a cage heater for her to sit near and keep warm at night instead of using a space heater in her alcove.
Let’s start with parrots falling under a definite no.
Kea for one. The New Zealand Alpine parrot lives in the snowy mountains and is really smart but extremely destructive.

Susan is seeking advice,
My 9-year-old conure is having an issue with his beak.
Two months ago I had his Avian vet trim his top beak as it was very long. Less than a month later his bottom beak got really long. So back to the Vet Jax went. The vet said to give him hard nuts to chew or a cuttlebone.
Hi! I very much enjoy your emails and all the information you provide. By the way, my green conure (Wyndle) looks just like the bird you have in the picture with you, Mitch.
Wyndle is a “mutt”, not a pedigree like my Sun Conure was. She has a HUGE personality and is full of spunk; very strong, inquisitive, eats all day (not overweight, tho), etc.
Cora Q. is concerned about,
My Green Cheek conure is having a problem molting.
His feathers are not replacing fully.
Lots of downy feathers.
Not replacing color.
It has been almost two months.
Pat D. relates,
My GCC has started biting quite a bit.
I want to do light therapy with her.
Can I keep her cage in the living room and cover him at night or should she be moved to another room to sleep?
This thread took place during the entire month of December 2020.
Spoiler alert (also found at end of the post)
Hi Catherine I don’t know if you got my email from the other day about the lighting treatment for Reggie’s hormones.
It did the trick.
She is so much friendlier to Kiwi there was just one time she went at him when he was on his stand but it wasn’t as bad as it was before the lighting treatment.
I know you are probably so busy I just wanted to know if she starts to show aggressive behavior do we do the 72 hr or 7 days she is still a little hormonal but not nearly as bad she loves going under my blanket lol.
Thanks again for your advice it was the best Christmas present we could have asked for.️

Hey there, here for the brunch, but I’d like to speak to the manager, I just have a question or two before sitting down:
So we have a 2 bird, 2 human family.
The littlest one, a GCC named Pz is the comedian and energy ball of the group, with tons of personality packed into a 70gram feather suit.
Our sanity these days hinges upon making sure the bird children are well taken care of, as we spend all our days with them now and find it very enriching to be attentive to their unique needs and the interesting ways in which they communicate them to us.
