Hello, I enjoy your site and your advice very much.
My wife and I just got our hand raised Budgerigar, the bird is very affectionate and spends quite a bit of time on our shoulders.
Recently it has started to preen us, the issue is that it’s preening can be painful as it will focus on skin imperfections or small folds of skin and nip quite hard.

We have a 20-year old African Grey who has been with us since weaning.
She has been on Harrisons’ pellets for years.
The problem with feeding her Harrisons’ is that she throws them out of her bowl and on the floor outside her cage, so I am not sure how many pellets she actually eats. (more…)

If bird owners would train their birds to the Aviator Harness they can put their bird on a T Perch in their vehicle and the bird does not have to be caged I have an SUV and my blue & gold goes everywhere we go and loves it. (more…)

We have a 2-year-old male Gray Cockatiel who has the worst case of “ouwie feathers” under his wings.
We can lift his wings and see a number of pin feathers that are causing some distress.
Question: what if anything can we do to help him out?
He’s fine otherwise, big beautiful boy and a best in class winner here in Florida last year.

What is Chop?
Hi Kathy,
Chop is a term used for the result of mixing together random or a stated recipe for a vegetable-based diet for birds.
It can contain anything from spinach, kale, beans, grains, vegetables and/or fruits.
We feel too much emphasis is placed on giving the birds this mixture.

About a month ago I received a blue gold macaw as kind of a rescue, the folks that had him couldn’t handle or take care of him anymore. I am his third owner in as best they could tell me 12 years.
I don’t have any experience with macaws prior.
So far so good except the cage ordeal.
The cage they gave me for him was way too small and he absolutely hated it so I built him a perch to hang out on in my basement till I could get a suitable cage for Oscar.

My 8-year-old Yellow-sided Conure is very picky about vegetables.
She will only eat three.
She likes broccoli, carrots, and snow peas.
If I try giving her sugar snap peas, which are almost the same, she knows the difference and throws them out of the bowl.
