How To Introduce New Toys That Parrots Should Play With

And How to Discourage Items They Should Leave Alone

I had a screen saver a while back with an umbrella cockatoo and the words (from the cockatoo’s perspective), “What’s mine is mine, what’s yours is mine, if you put it down it is mine, if I see it it is mine, but if you give it to me, I don’t want it”.

This is so true for many parrots and can be used to introduce new toys and cage additions to your bird’s environment.

Mickey And Her Senegals

Hi…I am a long-time friend of Nora…haven’t been able to contact her…so I am turning to you guys.

I will try to make a very long story short.

I adopted Kirby a 6-year-old Senegal, male, about 6 years ago. He is now about 15, not sure, don’t remember what year I got him…

Can’t get near him to read a band.

Anyway….he is a BEAST.

Should Blind People Keep Pet Birds?

This might be an interesting topic for a Birdie Brunch!

Hello, I’m Laurie Cannon, who wrote to you about the possibility of adopting an older Green-Winged Macaw.

We didn’t do that, however, we did contact a breeder about a Panama Amazon baby.

She seemed almost horrified when she found out both my husband and I are totally blind.

Will My Young Cockatoo Welcome An Older Macaw

Laurie C asks

My husband and I rescued a 3-month-old medium Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo (aka Eleonora cockatoo) from a horrible pet store situation last August.

We finished his hand-feeding which took another month.

He was very skinny and underfed so we have spoiled him rotten.

Help With An African Grey And A Triton Cockatoo.

I Have An African Grey And A Triton Cockatoo.

I hand fed both and have had the Grey since 1985 and the Cockatoo since 1987.

They are housed separately in AE birdcages and I have perches around the house for them to move to as I work around.

Both are female.

My Gray has begun acting strange.

Why is My Severe Macaw is Losing All Its Feathers?

Why is My Severe Macaw is Losing All Its Feathers?

My severe macaw is losing all its feathers.

The vet says I should switch her to 80% pellet food.

However, I am not convinced. I don’t think they eat pellets in the wild.

I am trying adding HARI Prime vitamin, mineral, and amino acid supplement w/probiotics to her diet.

Do you think this is an acceptable alternative?

Why Do My 2 Amazon Parrots Get Scared When I Put Toys In Their Cage

It does not matter if the toys are small, medium or large.

Do they tolerate plexiglass? Plastic?

Angela said

Locking rings are a toy I offer but they will not play with them.

Instead, they go around them as if the ring toys were in their way or annoyed them

Will My Quaker Parrot Warm Up To My Cockatiel And Budgie

Katie L. Asks

Is there ever a chance my Quaker Parrot Blu will warm up to my other birds?

He just turned 1, I’ve had him since he was a baby.

We got Winnie the Cockatiel as a baby about 6 months after Blu and just a few weeks ago Chip the parakeet joined our flock.

Blu isn’t as aggressive w/Winnie at this point, but he used to stalk her.

He loved pulling a feather or biting her toes and as a result, Winnie is scared of Blu and little baby Chip.

How She Cared For Her African Greys Fractured Leg Bone

Hi Mitch and Catherine,

Thanks again for an informative ‘Sunday Birdie Brunch’!

I would appreciate some guidance…

Due to my carelessness and haste a month ago, I scooped Hannah up as she was running down the hallway and dropped her by accident.

I saw the look on her face and her holding her leg and knew immediately she was injured.
