How Do I Stop My Peach-faced Lovebird From Prolific Egg-laying?

Julie O. has a lovebird issue,

Hello Catherine & Mitch

We have a peach-faced lovebird named Kiki (she told us her name, it’s the only word she speaks) that was rescued nearly dead from starvation and dehydration on a busy Los Angeles street about 5 years ago.

We don’t know her actual age, but she looked to be fairly young then.

In the past two years, she has started laying infertile eggs.

Why Do We Have a Difficult Time With Our Pineapple Conure?

Lisa N.  writes:

Hi Catherine,

We are having a really difficult time with our Pineapple Conure.

We know he’s going through puberty but he has always been good with my husband now he bites all the time and won’t go in his cage.

When we try he just flies away and he has his times where he can be sweet but most of the time he’s a little hellion.

Do You Think Lupron Would Help or Hurt My Cockatiels Behavior?

Joanne F. wonders aloud,

Been reading your blog about the effects of Lupron on female birds for egg-laying.

My vet is suggesting these injections for my male white face cockatiel, “Pico”.

Pico is literally like Jekyll and Hyde.

Very loving but can turn on you in a nanosecond.

He is so highly hormonal that almost anything is perceived as a potential mate.

Feet, sneakers, plastic Kind bar wrappers……the list is expanding.

I Have a Question About a Green Ringneck Male I Just Bought

Nauman asks

I am messaging about a Green (African) ringneck male I recently bought from a pet shop (who said he is 6 months old ) however he has a clear ring not on the full neck but it’s there.

Anyways the first day he didn’t eat anything, the second day he’s started to eat the mix of seeds.

He’s not hand tamed and not aggressive unless you try to grab him (which is not what I’m am trying to do)

What are Good Protein Sources for Parrots?

Gabby M. relates

Hi all,

I make a chop of fresh veggies and if I can, fruit, but my guys do not seem to like fruit, since we incorporated it into the diet my Senegal Gabby does not eat any of his seed mix or his pellets or anything but the chop, I have incorporated beans and edamame into it for protein but am afraid he might not be getting enough protein.

I am putting it in twice a day at the evening change of food and in am before I head out so he has more to eat.

I am not sure if he gets enough protein in his diet with only the beans?

I’m Frustrated With Featherbrite-how Do I Fix My Lighting?

Cynthia expresses her frustration with the FeatherBrite birdcage lighting system:

I have the swag lights that require two bulbs.

I bought the 16 watts LED bulb and the UV blue bulb in September, and now they’re burned out.

I don’t even see the same bulbs as a set for sale on your site.

I have a Pagoda-style light that requires one bulb but those apparently aren’t sold for that style anymore.

I can’t keep buying lighting fixtures. Help!

If Albino Birds Are Mutations Why Do They Have Shorter Lifespans?

Bruce S. relates:

Hi, recently Mom’s albino parakeet I’ve been taking care of crossed the rainbow bridge.

Mom passed in November (2020), and the bird had been with me for several years.

Believe he made it to almost 7 years old, and I’m waiting for info from the pet store on the exact age.

Just curious about your knowledge of albino parakeets, he was a sweet and cool bird.

Thanks!!
