What Size Cage Would You Recommend for a Goffin Cockatoo?
Joan asks:
Hello. What size cage would you recommend for a Goffin Cockatoo?
Dear Joan
A Goffin can enjoy a small cage 22″ wide up to a huge cage 40″ wide or larger.

Coloration and silence.
Bird calls that can be repeated from bird to bird for miles are one signal.
Birds are noisy unless a predator is spotted, silence translates to a broadcast message of danger.
Barb H. asks:
I’d appreciate advice on integrating parrots into a 36′ X 10 communal aviary for 8 amazons & 2 macaws.
These birds have all lived together in the same room divided by partitions. Although separated, they can see each other and communicate.
Since they’re familiar with each other, I’m hoping for a painless transition.
Cheri S. asks:
I would like to try putting my 3 parakeets and cockatiels in the same cage.
What size cage should I use?
Also, what is a flight cage compared to a regular cage?
Hope you can help.
Mitch, that’s a great cheap Sunday funny…LOL 🙂
When did you get Barney?
He’s BEAUTIFUL and so healthy-looking as are all of your other friendly feathered friends 🙂
Have a WONDERFUL Sunday!
Susan
Editors note: In the featured image above, Barney was obsessing with the other bird in the mirror as Catherine observed.
We have since blocked access to that part of the mirror and Barney has become far more social (less hormonal). Endnote
One of the reasons we are able to stay in business going up against the likes of Amazon and Chewy is that we answer the phone and can provide useful advice.
And although PetSmart and Petco will answer the phone on a national or store level, good luck with getting information about proper care for your white-capped Pionus.
There is been a definite uptick of calls and emails seeking advice for birds exhibiting bad hormonal behavior.

Hi Mitch,
Seymour was picking on the left side lip of my stainless steel sink the other day and I think she removed the caulk.
As of last night, I have water leaking out of the area whenever I turn the water on more than a tiny stream.
Lorraine H. asks
Can I put in the same cage, a love bird, a mate who died last year, and a pair of parakeets?
Editor’s note: full transparency, I don’t think we’ve ever covered the subject of pet birds and hearing.
Once again a loyal reader comes through with a potentially serious issue that until now we have left opaque.
Many of us take for granted that our birds can hear but exactly how good is their hearing, how has it evolved and how do they use it?
Birds have been used as organic hunting mechanisms since Genghis Khan ruled Asia.
With proper training, you can have precise control over any bird.
