Windy City Parrot Defines Small And Medium Size Species Of Pet Birds

Small species pet birds

Birds we classify as “Smaller” species

FYI  There’s something like 100 species of Conures. Conures need to be subdivided into small, medium & large (which is on our to-do list)

Green cheek conures weigh 64 grams (cockatiels are about 100 grams – Patagonian conures weight about 280 grams, about the size of a Timneh African grey.

Don’t think for a minute conures can be classified into one size category

Large Canaries

How Can I Tame Two Adult Budgies at Once?

How can I tame two adult budgies at once?

I would rather not buy two bird cages.

mitchr explains:

It’s been recently discovered that the first parrot breeders in North America existed almost 1000 years ago.

Birds on the other hand existed freely around the planet for about 99 million years prior to humans containment of them.

Why Captive Birds Don’t Need To Learn How To Fly

File under “the universe is too complicated to be arbitrary” which begs the question “does a dyslexic agnostic believe in dog?”

From our Birdie Bruch reader Betsy L.

THANK YOU for today’s (9/11/16) birdy brunch!  It was perfectly timed….

Yesterday evening, a Quaker parrot landed on my friend’s head while he was out on his deck (near Lawrence and Kedzie – in Chicago).

A Better Bird Ep 13 – How Bird Proof Is Your Home? Video

In about 24 months our household has gone from 0 to 9 birds.

Six budgies (2 males/4 females), a female Senegal (surgically sexed) and a male African ringneck (males have the ring).

I fondly call the budgies my little hooligans who have their own cage as does Peaches our 9 year old female Senegal and Keto the newest member to our family, the 17-year-old male African ringneck.

What Should You Consider Before Getting a Pet Bird?

What Should You Consider Before Getting a Pet Bird?

Children are loud, messy, and time-consuming,  but every family has 2.6 of them (Pew Research).

I probably spend less time cleaning up after my eight birds in three birdcages than most moms cleaning up after 2 six-year-olds

or a single toddler

To say that all birds are time-consuming is an unsupported blanket statement.

We have a Senegal parrot and an African ringneck.

Neither is very noisy.

What Is a Good Summary About How It Is to Own Parrots (Macaws Specifically)?

I don’t know that there’s enough storage space on the Quora servers to answer this.

I read that parrots are loud, noisy, and messy – a lot.

Then again so are children.

Let’s start with a top-level explanation.

Pet people in the disciple category will always react negatively towards the word own preferring instead to call it pet bird companionship.

In reality, birds are the most owned pets we can have.

We have to lock them up in a bird jail.

The Complete Guide To Understanding Sleeping Birds

Mitch,

Have you written about “bird sleep”? I watched a eagle chick go from hatchling to fledgling and during the process, both the chick and parents seemed to sleep only periodically, preening much of the night.

I recently put an night-vision camera on my 35 year old amazon’s (1/2 blue-front, 1/2 panama) cage, and was surprised to see that she seems to preen much of the night as well.

Is this common with all birds?

Thanks,

Bert S.
