We rescued a 15-year-old African ringneck about two months ago and renamed him Keto.
If he gets near my hand or arm he will lash out and try to bite me.
I’m very careful to avoid this.
Interestingly enough Catherine will draw him out of the cage with his big bell toy and he will play in her lap for half an hour, as long as she has the bell toy.
He will do anything for the bell toy.
First of all, people who state absolute truths about bird care as in yes and no have much to learn.
To answer this question with an emphatic “no”, begs even more queries:
If you just want to let the bird out by opening the cage door have you examined your home?
I have a young Galah parrot (aka rose-breasted cockatoo) who is missing her toes on one foot.
She was three weeks old when she developed constricted toe and had the amputation, so she really has no idea that she’s handicapped.

Dear Mitch I wanted to ask for your advice.
My male cockatiel is pulling his feathers out from under his wings.
I brought him to one avian vet who did blood work.
That was a dead end.
The 2nd vet sent droppings to a lab and that was negative.
How can I tame two adult budgies at once?
I would rather not buy two bird cages.
