Why is My Severe Macaw is Losing All Its Feathers?

My severe macaw is losing all its feathers.

The vet says I should switch her to 80% pellet food.

However, I am not convinced. I don’t think they eat pellets in the wild.

I am trying adding HARI Prime vitamin, mineral, and amino acid supplement w/probiotics to her diet.

Do you think this is an acceptable alternative?

Will My Quaker Parrot Warm Up To My Cockatiel And Budgie

Katie L. Asks

Is there ever a chance my Quaker Parrot Blu will warm up to my other birds?

He just turned 1, I’ve had him since he was a baby.

We got Winnie the Cockatiel as a baby about 6 months after Blu and just a few weeks ago Chip the parakeet joined our flock.

Blu isn’t as aggressive w/Winnie at this point, but he used to stalk her.

He loved pulling a feather or biting her toes and as a result, Winnie is scared of Blu and little baby Chip.

Small species pet birds

Birds we classify as “Smaller” species

FYI  There’s something like 100 species of Conures. Conures need to be subdivided into small, medium & large (which is on our to-do list)

Green cheek conures weigh 64 grams (cockatiels are about 100 grams – Patagonian conures weight about 280 grams, about the size of a Timneh African grey.

Don’t think for a minute conures can be classified into one size category

What Should You Consider Before Getting a Pet Bird?

Children are loud, messy, and time-consuming,  but every family has 2.6 of them (Pew Research).

I probably spend less time cleaning up after my eight birds in three birdcages than most moms cleaning up after 2 six-year-olds

or a single toddler

To say that all birds are time-consuming is an unsupported blanket statement.

We have a Senegal parrot and an African ringneck.

Neither is very noisy.

For those who are not following on us Facebook or our YouTube channel, you’ll note that we are ramping up our use of Fid-eo to better communicate caged bird care.

Why Do Parrots Enjoy Mimicking?

How do we know parrots enjoy anything? Another question recently asked on Quora was “what do parrots do for fun”?

We know parrots prefer “working” for food versus simply eating from overflowing bowls of parrot food.

We know correlation does not necessarily imply causation but can we infer that work & play are one and the same for a parrot?
